Hidden Pond: Napanoch, NY

About The Property

“Cabin in the woods” doesn’t do Hidden Pond justice. While the alluring 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is perched at the end of a driveway that winds through the woods, you arrive to an expansive clearing, featuring an attractive cedar shingled home and large and deep swimming pond. It is a private, dynamic oasis with pretty woodland through which a sweet stream tumbles, and is adjacent to over 100 acres of preserved State land.

Large stones, harvested when the pond was created, form dramatic steps up to the house from the parking area. Accessed via a couple sets of glass sliders or the front door the wraparound deck is a natural extension of the house for much of the year. Built in 1972 and recently renovated, the marquee feature of the house is a soaring wall of windows that bathes the great room in mood-enhancing natural light.

The double-height portion of the main room is spacious, with a generous allocation to the lounge, which includes a Vermont Castings wood stove, and dining area. The kitchen includes a 5-burner gas stove and breakfast bar that separates it from the great room.

There are two bedrooms on the ground floor that share a bathroom with modern tiled shower with glass enclosure. The upstairs is comprised exclusively of the primary suite, where a deep alcove serves as a luxe bathroom that includes soaking tub. A large double closet is enclosed by barn doors, one of which can also roll to close off the bathroom.

The pond is over 1/3 acre, sizable enough for paddle boarding and a refreshing swim, but is also a cherished feature year round, for skating or simply as an incredible visual focal point.

Off the front deck it’s a short stroll along the path into the woods where a delightful stream flows over rocks and mini falls. The owners have made a point of hanging a hammock back there for the ultimate in shaded relaxation.

Regardless of the direction you’re coming from, it’s a scenic approach along sleepy 55A to Hidden Pond, with the stunning, nearly 6.5 mile long Rondout Reservoir your neighbor across the street. Fun fact: This is one of the sources of pristine drinking water that makes its way to New York City. There is an expansive supermarket, and a handful of eateries, including Aroma Thyme 15 minutes away in Ellenville, and hot attractions like Innes, Arrowood Farms and Stone Ridge Orchard are all just about a half hour’s drive.

Hidden Pond has been a successful short-term rental, and the owner would consider selling the property with contents as a separate transaction. Please see the Listing Details sheet (button on this page) for specifics, as well as additional information on the property, systems and operating costs.
