A SUBJECTIVE GUIDE TO WORTHWHILE SIGHTS, BUSINESSES, RESTAURANTS AND ACTIVITIES
Claryville, Grahamsville and Liberty are about 20-30 minutes, from Livingston Manor, so there is overlap with the town profile for that area.
Golf
Tennanah Lake Golf & Tennis Club - Roscoe, NY. The club features a superb 18-hole championship course, designed by Sam Snead.
Grossinger’s Golf Club - Liberty, NY
Concord Golf Club - Kiamesha Lake, NY. The Famous "Monster" Golf Course had been rated by Golf Digest as one of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. *Actually, I played this course recently and I think that’s probably an overstatement. Or the ranking is from 20 years ago. But stay tuned, the whole place is getting a major overhaul in the coming years.
Tarry Brae Golf Course - Loch Sheldrake, NY
Skiing, Belleayre
The closest downhill skiing is at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, NY.
Concerts / Woodstock Museum
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is an outstanding new addition to Sullivan Co., located on the site of the famous 1969 concert. It is an exquisite outdoor concert venue with spectacular farmland views, and now a new museum dedicated to the concert.

Local Sights/Activities/Eateries/Businesses
• It’s always fun to share news of a new endeavor that reflects the hard work and creativity of its daring entrepreneurs, and Rolling River Café Gallery and Inn, in Parksville (25 Cooley Rd) is a winner. Their bijou restaurant features fresh fare prepared and served by Rob and Kim Rayevsky and their daughter Miriam, in a fun, friendly atmosphere that has everyone I’ve sent, returning almost immediately. Their outdoor seating, with strings of lights through the trees and charming café tables (including a private, romantic spot along the river), has a European feel, and is so alluring you’ll want to bring your fleeces and extend the season as long as possible. Call for schedule 845-747-4123.
• The Catskill Harvest Market focuses on bringing local produce, cheeses, meat, poultry, baked goods, and even soap to market, all with a wonderful retail flair. You’ll also find an exciting range of gourmet coffees and teas, candy and gift items. Now there’s a cute eatery, where you can nosh on divine sandwiches, etc. On rte 52 between Liberty & White Sulphur Springs.
Fly Fishing
The Neversink River runs through Claryville, although it is almost exclusively privately owned. Some of the best public access trout fishing can be found nearby on the famous Willowemoc (willow-wee’-mock) and Beaverkill Rivers. I know a wonderful professional fishing guide who would be happy to share his knowledge (and of course some wonderful stories!).
The Catskill Fly Fishing Museum in Livingston Manor pays homage to the rich history of fishing in this area (the nearby Neversink River is the birthplace of American fly fishing). In Roscoe, Catskill Flies is the go-to shop for equipment and very knowledgeable staff. I like the daily stream conditions report on their site.

Hamish & Henry Booksellers
Gracing Main Street in Livingston Manor, the opening of Hamish & Henry has brought something powerful to the immediate and surrounding communities that is so significant it warrants a stand-alone mention. Jeff and Sue have brought the wider world into an often fairly sleepy part of the world (and there are comfy sofas from which to take it all in). Their bright, contemporary book store has all the latest books, and they’re creatively displayed. Don’t be surprised if there’s a line out the door to hear some famed writer speak, be they local or famous (or sometimes both).
