Well the first renovation we’re featuring here is from The New York Times (May 19, 2010), which published a very entertaining feature, and a compelling slideshow on a property of particular significance for us at Country House Realty, as it’s one of the top rentals at our sister company, Red Cottage Inc.  Amber Lake Cottage in Livingston Manor, NY is a fantastic example of a buyer with a great eye following that golden rule of real estate, Location, location, location, and purchasing a rather simple, ho hum wood-paneled cabin on a quiet, undeveloped lake, only a few minutes from a cute town. Along with her good friend and designer Kate Humphrey, who has put her stamp on many a to-die-for house, both large and small, in Sullivan Co., they seemingly erased all evidence of the original structure, even though that wood paneling is still there, albeit under several coats of white paint. So before you dismiss that uninteresting structure in a dream spot, think twice. That could be your uber-chic country getaway! Here’s the link to the full feature, Turning a Fishing Cabin into a Sophisticated Retreat, by Joyce Wadler.

This next slideshow, also from The Times (June 23, 2010), features a whimsical, fairytale creation up in Andes, NY. I’m a big fan of cleverly-conceived small dwellings, and this is a really fun example. Here’s the link to the full feature, In the Catskills, Comfort in a Gingerbread House, also by Joyce Wadler.
